Kerry Ellis wins Theatregoers' Choice Award

Kerry Ellis has won the 2008 Theatregoers' Choice Award for best takeover in a role.
Kerry took over the role of Elphaba in London's production of Wicked on 1 January 2007 from Idina Menzel in the original London cast.
A record-breaking 25,000 people voted for the Theatregoers' Choice awards this year.
On receiving her award, Kerry said:
I'm absolutely thrilled to have won this award. It means so much to me, especially as it's the result of votes from the audiences and theatregoers. Thank you so much to everyone who voted and showed their support for me.
Kerry is currently working on her debut album, which is being produced by Brian May, for release later this year.
Also up for nomination in the same category was fellow cast member Dianne Pilkington, for her take over of the role of Galinda from original cast member Helen Dallimore
The breakdown of the results are:
- Kerry Ellis - Wicked, Apollo Victoria - 36.1%
- Dianne Pilkington - Wicked, Apollo Victoria - 10.5%
- Kelly Osbourne - Chicago, Cambridge - 16.1%
- Leila Benn Harris - Phantom of the Opera, Her Majesty's - 8.2%
- Peter Davison - Spamalot, Palace - 16.9%
- Ramin Karimloo - Phantom of the Opera, Her Majesty’s - 12.3%
